Dealer Warranty
Every vehicle from Premium Wholesale Cars comes with a 3-month dealer warranty. Here's exactly what that means — no fine print, no surprises.
What Is the Dealer Warranty?
Under New Zealand's Consumer Guarantees Act (CGA), every vehicle sold by a registered motor vehicle trader must be fit for purpose, of acceptable quality, and match its description. These are your legal rights as a buyer.
Premium Wholesale Cars backs this with a 3-month dealer warranty on every vehicle we sell. This covers major mechanical and electrical faults that were present or developing at the time of sale — giving you clear, defined protection from day one.
Duration: 3 months from the date of purchase or 5,000 km, whichever comes first.
What's Covered
Mechanical and electrical faults that were present or developing at the time of sale. The following systems and components are covered under your dealer warranty.
What's Not Covered
The dealer warranty does not cover the following items. We list these upfront so there are no misunderstandings.
How to Claim
Contact Us
Call 0800 422 771 or email sales@premiumwholesalecars.co.nz within the warranty period. Describe the fault clearly.
Assessment
Bring the vehicle to our Sockburn workshop or an approved repairer. We'll inspect and diagnose the issue.
Repair
If the fault is covered, we authorise and manage the repair. You don't chase anything — we handle it.
Back on the Road
Collect your vehicle once repaired. If the repair takes longer than expected, we'll discuss courtesy car options.
Beyond 3 Months
The dealer warranty is time-limited. Most major mechanical failures happen between 6–24 months of ownership — after the standard warranty has expired. An engine rebuild can cost $5,000–$12,000. A transmission repair, $3,000–$6,000.
For ongoing peace of mind, extended mechanical warranties are available through our partners Janssen Insurance and Autosure. These cover mechanical and electrical breakdown for 1–4 years with clear contractual terms, a nationwide repair network, and rental car cover during repairs.
Extended warranty doesn't just cover the same things longer — it adds benefits the dealer warranty doesn't include: rental vehicles, roadside assistance, nationwide repairers, and transferability if you sell.
Engine Rebuild
$5,000 – $12,000
Transmission Repair
$3,000 – $6,000
Turbo Replacement
$2,000 – $4,000
Your Rights Under the CGA
The Consumer Guarantees Act (CGA) is New Zealand law. It requires every vehicle sold by a licensed dealer to be of acceptable quality, fit for purpose, and to match its description. These rights apply regardless of whether the dealer mentions them or not.
What counts as "acceptable" depends on the price, age, mileage, and condition of the vehicle at the time of sale. A $40,000 car with 50,000 km is expected to last significantly longer than an $8,000 car with 200,000 km. Your CGA rights can extend well beyond the 3-month dealer warranty for serious defects.
"We don't bury this like other dealers — we want you to understand your rights. The CGA is your baseline. Our warranty is on top of that."

Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly does the 3-month dealer warranty cover?
Our standard dealer warranty covers major mechanical and electrical components including the engine, transmission, differential, cooling system, steering, braking system (excluding wear items like pads and discs), factory-fitted electrical systems, and air conditioning (if fitted and advertised as working at sale). It runs for 3 months from the date of purchase or 5,000 km, whichever comes first.
What's the difference between the dealer warranty and my CGA rights?
The dealer warranty is a defined set of terms that clearly state what's covered for 3 months. Your Consumer Guarantees Act (CGA) rights are New Zealand law and can extend beyond 3 months depending on the vehicle's price, age, and condition. The dealer warranty sits on top of your CGA rights — it doesn't replace them.
Do I need to service my vehicle to keep the warranty valid?
Yes. The vehicle must be maintained in accordance with the manufacturer's service schedule. Neglecting regular servicing or using incorrect fluids/parts may void warranty coverage for related faults. Keep your service receipts as proof of maintenance.
What happens if something goes wrong after 3 months?
After the dealer warranty period, your CGA rights may still apply for serious defects depending on the nature of the fault, the price paid, and the age of the vehicle. For ongoing peace of mind with clear contractual terms, we recommend extended warranty through our partners Janssen Insurance and Autosure — available for 1–4 years.
How do I make a warranty claim?
Contact us on 0800 422 771 or email sales@premiumwholesalecars.co.nz. Describe the issue, and we'll arrange an assessment at our Sockburn workshop or an approved repairer. You can also submit a claim online at premiumwholesalecars.nz/support/warranty-claim.
